I recently started receiving this error for no reason, just within 15 seconds within starting the vehicle while being parked at my driveway or even being stopped at a red light. After getting this error message and the constant beeping, the emergency brake turns on and the window from behind driver's door lowers like 5 inches from top. At this point, I cannot lower window and I cannot turn off emergency brake. So in order to reset, I have to turn off the engine then open behind driver door(where the window is lowered) and when closing it back I turn on engine. This makes the error go away, everything goes back to normal. So ODD but so annoying too. This has happened 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Don't know what triggers this. Anyone with similar issue?
I have the 2020 VW Atlas SEL and I had the same thing occur. In my situation both the driver and passenger side windows went down about 3 to 4 inches. The audible warnings went off and multiple dash warnings as well as Door ajard and Engine running displayed on dash. My car's been in the shop for over a month and never once called for a follow-up to see how long it would take for the service department to get back to me with at least a diagnosis. So here I am a month later, I finally get a phone call stating there waiting for parts. In the message they left they didn't tell me what they found or what part they are waiting for.
Sorry getting off on a tangent for lack of professionalism and customer service.
So apparently this was all caused by the door sensor but that part is on backorder. No ETA as of 2-20-22
I would be irate if I didn't have a loaner from the dealership but I often ask myself how upset I would be if I was still making payments on it.

Hi all,

I am having the same issue with no hope in sight, my dealership has had 11 Altas's waiting for over two month. We all need to come together and file a report with the US highway department. Filing a report will help force a recall. I have added the link for you. Report a Safety Problem | NHTSA

I am so fed up with this issue!! I started having this problem back in Nov 2021 very sporadically (mine is a 2021.5 and isn't even a year old). I made an appointment with the dealership and when I showed up they said they hadn't planned for me to have a loaner for the day and rescheduled me. The car didn't even make it to the delayed appointment because this issue got so bad that this was everytime I started my car and was putting the emergency break on whenever I started slowing down for a stop light or stop sign. The door switch has finally been replaced (2/25/22 - more than two months later). They told me it was ready for pick up but then it was delayed for regular service. When they drove it after the service they discovered the brakes were vibrating. They went to resurface the brakes and after multiple delays with that it turns out it didn't fix the issue and now they need to get permission to replace the rear rotor. The min you start having this issue you need to go make an appointment and I will definitely be completing a report to highway safety and i have a ticket with VW customer cares. It is clearly a known problem!!!

I just filed a complaint. Thank you for the link. I also have a case with VW Customer Cares. Don't know if you have done that. It won't help speed up the process but you can get resources for filing a car buyback/replacement and open a case so that you can force them to evaluate compensation for the ordeal. They won't do anything until the issue is resolved but maybe it can give you a place to start. I waited 9 weeks for the replacement part and now that the part is replaced it has spawned a whole new set of issues. Good Luck!

My regional case manager just called stating that they have asked the dealership (cherry hill) to obtain a loaner from Enterprise- but they did not mention a limit to the daily rental cost. Supposedly dealer is supposed to be reaching out to enterprise, if I don’t hear anything back from dealer I will hear back from the Regional case manager Friday (2 business days). I have already contacted lemon law attorney and they have begun a case initiation. NJ state lemon law requires car to be in service without resolution for 20 days (since 2/8) so approaching the 20 day mark is when I will hear more from the attorney about options to request from VW. Let me know how you make out if you can.
Not sure if you are interested (it is a lot of paper work) but if you ask your Regional case manager for their buyback/replacement options they should send you the documentation for filing a request directly to VW. I have no concept of how often they get approved etc but they do have a process readily available.

Hi Page,
Glad you found the link helpful. I did file a clam today with VW and was told next Thursday a regional manager would get in touch with me. I don't to want to go the buy back route if i don’t have to, but if it takes another month I will. I really like my Atlas Cross Sport, it's by far my favorite car I've ever had. You were saying that after they replaced the part it brought on new issues? What kind of issues might I have to deal with; it may sway me to going through the buy back option.

Hi! Yes I did! Im waiting for a package from them to come with the attorney and paralegals information. They are handling all communication with VW from this point forward! Hoping for them to buy the car back from me.
hi , just seeing if you’ve had any progress after receiving thepackage.

Hi All, glad to know I’m not alone in this! I bought a 2021.5 Atlas SEL R-Line on 2/27/21 it currently has 11,200 miles. To provide a brief synopsis of what has happened, on December 21, 2021 I got the myriad of warning messages letting me know all assist systems were unavailable, my driver door was open, check engine etc. Anytime I would come to about 15 MPH my parking brake would engage. I dropped my vehicle off with the dealership 12/22/21 was provided with a Passat for a loaner. 12/23/21 they confirmed driver door harness issue and told me they ordered the part but it was backorder with no ETA. 1/5/22 I reached out to Customer Care and was assigned a Regional supervisor who would call me within 4 business days. Called customer care 1/12/22 because I never received follow up. 1/17/22 had the regional supervisor call just to tell me that my dealership was receiving two harnesses… but neither were mine. I requested info on lemon replacement (I did receive that email) and was told I would be called back in two weeks to follow up on my harness. Called customer care 2/10/22 because I had no follow up and requested an alternate loaner (I’m 6’4” and a big dude I drive an atlas for a reason! My head hits the roof of the Passat if I sit up straight.) customer care told me to reach out to the dealer for loaner issues and told me there was a call scheduled for follow up on 2/14/22. Got a call on 2/14/22 to tell me the harness was still on backorder. After consulting with a lawyer I filed for lemon vehicle replacement under my current lease on 2/23/22. The automated email response indicated a decision would be provided within 20 business days so now I wait to hear from VWGoA.I’m in MA and vehicles less than 1 year old qualify as a lemon if they are out of service for 15 business days due to a repair covered under warranty so my vehicle qualifies. I really love my Atlas and I’m not interested in other midsized suvs. The Atlas offered the most space for me, I mean I’m 6’4” and comfortable in the 3rd row. Here’s to hoping VW does the right thing. My concern with replacement is that I selected the R-Line purposefully but now the R-Line is only offered on SEL Premium not standard SEL so I don’t know what they would offer as replacement.

We are still waiting on the part despite our efforts to push the issue along. It’s been almost three months which is maddening. How did everyone get VW to provide a rental? We live in Massachusetts and both our dealership (VW wellsley) and the advocate said they won’t provide! We decided to push forward with the buyback process but not sure if it will be approved or what they will offer, so waiting to hear back. But this is honestly criminal!
Quirk VW provided a loaner might be worth the drive to be provided with a loaner!

Another victim of the wiring harness here.
Window randomly going down. E-brake turning on by itself. Christmas lights and beeping annoying as ****/

My 2019 Atlas has been in 4 times to replace this same issue. Literally one year ago (feb 2021) They replaced my drivers side wiring harness and had my car for 30 days just to get a part! Everything was great during that year period, but now i'm getting the same exact error. I'm beyond annoyed at this point and i'm very worried about the safety of me and my kids. I may be moving away from VW after this issue.

I’m so sorry you are experiencing this! four times?! That’s horrible. And makes me very worried about the issue happening again once they fix mine. I’ve been waiting three months for the part. It’s truly horrible. I’ve requested a buyback but am still waiting to hear back. I will never buy VW again.

Shouldn't it be under lemon law at this point? I am concerned with this issues as it applies the e-brake inadvertently and sometimes it wouldn't lock doors.
Just took mine in today and part is backordered. Will be sending certified letter to VW to start countdown.

Smart to start all the process early and keep all documentation. I agree completely that this is a safety hazard. Quite honestly it seems to have the making of a class action lawsuit if VW doesn’t offer fair buybacks to all impacted customers.

Sorry to hear. Is it a new cross sport? Best advice I can give is Start keeping records of all communications with VW now.
It is a Cross Sport. Just dropped it off this morning. They have a whole bunch of others that have been waiting for months. Mine is a lease, just under 1 year. Not sure what my course of action will be once it passes the timeframe to file lemon status, the dealer acknowledged that there are just no new cars to get into if I let this one go.

Hi, my name is Mike and I am a sad Atlas owner, 28 Dec 2021 picked up our loaded 2019 Atlas w/low miles.I did plenty of research, but evidently not enough. If I would have found this page I never would have went ahead with the purchase. FFW to 15 Jan and all the madness started, got it dropped off 18 Jan on a tow truck. Sitting here now at day 50+ and the excuse I am hearing from the dealer is "intergalactic delay." I filed a case w VW customer care and awaiting what they will say. We were offered a rental but it was a sedan and needed the room, so the original dealer has stepped up and provided us with a loaner(props to them)! My questions is, can/will VW buy it back? Anyone have luck with that? Thanks fam!
