I have a problem with navigation. My location is not determined correctly, the route is constantly being reroute. vw atlas cs 2020 sel premium. This happens with regular navigation and with Google / Apple maps when connected via wire. The problem is 100% with the car. Took it to the dealer (Washington). They said it was a big problem and VW didn't know how to fix it. I'll call customer care. does anyone have the same problem?
Same problem with my 2020 SEL

Same exact problem. I’ve taken my car to the dealership 5 times for the navigation issues. They claim “they can’t get it to replicate the behavior” but refuse to drive it for more than 3 minutes. One time they test drove my car for 1 mile and diagnosed it as working. I have close to 15 videos of my cars navigation system not working. It doesn’t work probably 75-80% of the time. They don’t care. My car has told me to make U-turn on highways and drive off of bridges into the Missouri river. I have a 2021 VW Golf. I am not using CarPlay or Google maps, I’m using the cars actual navigation. The service department doesn’t answer my calls or voicemails. I have to call off family member’s phones to get them to answer. I know they’re tired of me but if they would fix the issue and actually test drive it, the problem would be resolved. I’m looking for any advice, I’m considering getting a lawyer at this point.

My 21.5 ACS did not come with "factory" NAV but has Car Play so I have always just used what is the MAPS app thats on the iPhone and displays on the car screen via BT connection with audio through car speakers as the Sirius radio is slightly muted of on. Ironically the dealer I bought it from said the VW NAV was crap so I was not concerned my "technology" package did not come with it.

While it has always worked fine (car position is in fact where I am), today it had a fart where it thought I was going in another direction and kept spitting out revised route. I just exited the MAP app on phone (using APP button on dash and started it again and it was fine. GPS signal to app went weird, who knows but this kind of stuff does happen on any tech device.

FWIW I have had 1 software update OTA shortly after I bought car and it installed fine. I noticed no difference on whatever it was for. Likely a firmware update.

Resolved navigation issue in 2020 Atlas CrossSport SEL Premium. Navigation off road issue and dynamic road sign temporarily unavailable message on console. Best news, no charge for service.

I went to one VW dealer in Twin Cities and they told me there wasn’t a fix available. Then I went to another, and they did some investigation and found 2 tech updates.

Initially, after service, it was like brand new car with messages prompting me to do the navigation and Infotainment setup and messages the system was learning my routes. The first couple days after service I experienced inaccurate navigation as it learned the routes and now it is working normally for past two weeks with Apple Carplay or built in Infotainment navigation. I also notice the navigation update changed how display in dash looks when it is guiding you with arrows when built in navigation is being used. Looks a lot better fixed navigation and dynamic road sign temporarily unavailable message. Good luck, hope this helps.

Info from technician notes below:

Connected battery charger, checked faults none detected.

Fix:

Tech Bulletin #2064877/2, updated software for front land assist camera, cleared faults

Tech Bulletin #2072698/1, updated radio software, cleared faults

Updated maps to:
5NA919866AF
1320
NAR 2020
Sent this info to my dealer hope it helps as the GPS in my 2020 SEL is really nuts. It worked great prior to the last couple of Apple updates.

Please make sure you file a complaint with NHTSA online. It is free, and this is a major safety issue in my opinion. My 2023 Atlas has had these updates and for the most part does ok. But it will suddenly jump to sometimes 50 miles away, and then try to reroute you back onto the route you are actually already driving! It could kill you.

I took my 2023 SEL in for the 10k mile service, and mentioned I had the same problem that's been described in this thread. they told me when I picked hit up that they suspect it was because I needed a software update (which they applied while the car was there). I'm not holding my breath...

Do you know what was updated? Is there a TSB referenced?

the service manager mentioned there was a TSB. he didn't say what TSB it was. he just said there was a software update... sorry, but I didn't get into it any further than that due to my advance knowledge from this forum informing me that whatever they did likely wasn't going to work.

but a quick google search on VW Atlas TSBs led me to this:
91-24-01 - MIB2 MQB Composition & Discover Media Infotainment System Malfunctions 17 Jan 2024

TSB 91-24-01 is for a 2020 model. I have not found a TSB for the 2023 model. Would you be willing to call your dealer to see what TSB was installed? TIA

I have a 2020 SEL and neither Apple Maps,Waze nor Google maps will work if my iPhone is connected to the car. My car is currently at the dealer for a steering nuckle replacement and I asked them to complete the two service updates.
VW stopped navigation updates that I paid for when I purchased the car and said they gave me CarPlay instead so now there are no VW nav updates and CarPlay does not work, life with German engineering.

on receipt when service is completed for software updates, the specific version is stated.

With that said the only update I got was soon after my 21.5 was new. The notice was mailed to me from VW saying my car was OTA (over the air) capable and no need to take to dealer. I followed the prompts in notice and subsequent ones on my screen. It took at least 20-30 min to complete. Don't know what it "updated" but I am one who so far has had no NAV issues. I only use CarPlay. Don;t have factory NAV
