2021 SEL I had this problem (nav thinking it was somewhere else, and didnt help with phone plugged in. Dealer replaced with new Car-Net module, and all worked fine for a couple of weeks (new module in mid December). on 1/19/24 the nav system was not worked properly for about 3 minutes, then "fixed" itself and worked fine. Today (1/25/24) the nav system worked on the initial drive of the day to a location about 25 miles from home (North side of Chicago) and on drive home, it woke up at that location and didnt move for 30 minutes. when it did move slightly, it went further north (i was driving south). it thinks its 30 miles north of my home.

when i called the dealer, they asked me if i had done any of the recent really bad iPhone updates. which kind of irritated the xxxxx out of me. i did do the most recent update (17.3). They stated that they are seeing lots of SW issues with the ID4 and new 2024 Atlas. but no problems with CarNet and Android.

I dont have enough information to identify which companies SW may be the culprit, but i do find it hard to believe that ONLY Apple products are the source of this problem-if that was the case then i would think Apple products would be having issues with many car mfgs.

he said i could come in, but we both wondered to what end. the service guy i have been working with is a nice guy and i dont want to be a complete PITA, but i'm really PO'd about a $50K car's nav system not working properly.

anyone have an issues after having a new CarNet module replaced? what did you do to fix it?

I'm on hold to VW Customer Care right now. not that it will make a difference!!!

The iphone updates will cause issues so the VW dealer is somewhat correct. Every time an update comes out companies will need to patch their software due to security issues. So if VW doesnt come out with an update it more than likely wont fix it. Alot of times wont fix it till Apple puts out another update. Try an older iphone that hasnt been updated and see if that works. We have this same issue with our 22 Expedition I keep my iphone updates set to not auto update. We dont use the Ford Nav anyways since its not as accurate as like Waze or Google maps. I got a 24 Atlas and havent had any issues yet. Have you tried the other phone navigation apps instead.

So-I probably was not clear but I am not using any CarPlay apps. Not plugging in phone to car. Not using BT for anything besides phone connection.

I have used CarNet to lock the car.
I am going to drop off the car at the dealer when they have a loner. I want carnet off my car.

Spent over an hour getting through to and speaking with customer care. Said I don’t meet the criteria for escalation to a buyback (long shot I know).

seems like 2 multi billion dollar companies should be able to figure this out.

I have a 2020 SEL Atlas Cross sport. Had Front axles replaced at 103,000 miles seems to be defective part. I heard noise and had it investigated by a VW Authorized Tech. Replaced at my cost $1200.00. Nothing major other than that.. Navigation nor phone will connect and work properly since June 2023. Sucks but other cars are having issues. Seems the 5G and updates is not compatible with this infotainment center. I love the car, size, comfort and good gas mileage for the size suv it is. Would buy a new one next time around if they would work the kinks out of the Navigation and Phone issues. My son bought a new Kia Telluride and the iPhone to my Samsung cell will not work if he is on his Bluetooth in the car and I am on speaker. But my sister has same issue on her Buick. So it is an iPhone or cell phone issue in general.

Yes .. posted already on our 2023 . GM at our VW worked with me to get 2024 even swap but more on taxes percentage points.. only because our family bought 5 Atlas since they came out. Love our new one

I will not use CarNet as its nothing but problems.. sounds crazy but we enjoy Atlas for our long trips and comfort. We get almost 30 mpg on Hwy. VW Tech told us all sorts issues with Carnet just cant stay current with all updates.

You are lucky.. dealership and corp ran us around for 7 months.. finally after talking with an attorney they conveniently took the car back for 2024.. thanks to GM at dealership.. no issues! This is our family’s 5 atlas and do like the new 4 cylinder with great long travel mileage!
You were able to do an even trade for your atlas? I am having the same issue with my 2021 and they are telling me it is an Apple issue and not the car itself

I had the nav/phone issues since May 2023. In June, I took my 2020 Atlas CS SEL Premium to the dealer in Minneapolis and after a couple of days they informed me that I needed a new "Car-Net Module". It is on backorder with no ETA available, this is from VW's Customer Care department. The parts manager told me that most of these modules are sourced in Ukraine, hence don't hold your breath for one.

We returned to Tucson, AZ this fall (we are snowbirds), and needed an oil change. While at our selling dealer getting the oil changed, I let them know about our Nav/phone issues, expecting the same diagnosis. They wanted to keep the car for a day or two to see what their guys could do. 48 hours later, everything is all sorted and everything works! They rebooted/reprogrammed the offending module and discovered a marginally adequate battery that they thought compromised the module from booting up properly. Whatever, these guys here in Tucson went the extra mile and truly diagnosed the real problem and causes and fixed it. Hopefully, it continues to function. We shall see.

PS - the battery was out of warranty by a few miles (naturally), so I had to buy a new one. However they gave me a deal and I am a happy camper.
I would live to know what specific module the battery was tied to.

Are the nav/phone still working correctly? Have you had any more navigation issues?

I just had my CarNet module replaced and as soon as I drove off the lot, my GPS position on native NAV was still way off. I purposefully did not connect my phone. My phone was not plugged in, and my Bluetooth was turned off. It has to be something with the actual GPS sensor, not CarPlay. Onto the next fix...

Resolved navigation issue in 2020 Atlas CrossSport SEL Premium. Navigation off road issue and dynamic road sign temporarily unavailable message on console. Best news, no charge for service.

I went to one VW dealer in Twin Cities and they told me there wasn’t a fix available. Then I went to another, and they did some investigation and found 2 tech updates.

Initially, after service, it was like brand new car with messages prompting me to do the navigation and Infotainment setup and messages the system was learning my routes. The first couple days after service I experienced inaccurate navigation as it learned the routes and now it is working normally for past two weeks with Apple Carplay or built in Infotainment navigation. I also notice the navigation update changed how display in dash looks when it is guiding you with arrows when built in navigation is being used. Looks a lot better fixed navigation and dynamic road sign temporarily unavailable message. Good luck, hope this helps.

Info from technician notes below:

Connected battery charger, checked faults none detected.

Fix:

Tech Bulletin #2064877/2, updated software for front land assist camera, cleared faults

Tech Bulletin #2072698/1, updated radio software, cleared faults

Which version of IOS are on?

I have a problem with navigation. My location is not determined correctly, the route is constantly being reroute. vw atlas cs 2020 sel premium. This happens with regular navigation and with Google / Apple maps when connected via wire. The problem is 100% with the car. Took it to the dealer (Washington). They said it was a big problem and VW didn't know how to fix it. I'll call customer care. does anyone have the same problem?
I started having the same issue in my 2023 Atlas SE in fall 2023. Originally, I thought it was a Google Maps issue but I had to get a repair done on my Atlas and the issue didn't replicate in my rental vehicle when traveling on the same routes. I've since tested the route issue using Apple Maps in my Atlas and I'm having the same issue. It looks like I was correct in my assumption that it has to do with my trucks shark fin. If anyone finds a solution, please let me know. It's the worst when trying to navigate through downtown Austin.

I have a 2023 Atlas. So far, I have not seen any TSBs addressing this problem for the 2023. Has anyone with a 2023 seen a TSB for this problem?

I have a 2020SEL and gps on the iPhone just goes crazy. Driving down a highway and Apple Maps or Google maps or Waze tells you to turn at the stop sign, no stop on a 65 mph highway. Is this the same problem discussed in this chain? If so and you got it fixed can you tell me how it was fixed? Many thanks.
