The dealer applied the service update listed above, no help. Now even the built in GPS does not work. There are 2 huge international companies, VW and Apple you mean to tell me they can’t fix this issue? Neither cares about us customers.

I took my 2023 SEL in for the 10k mile service, and mentioned I had the same problem that's been described in this thread. they told me when I picked hit up that they suspect it was because I needed a software update (which they applied while the car was there). I'm not holding my breath...
...and it's a good thing I didn't hold my breath. I drove my wife to a friend's this morning to drop her off, and it reset twice all by itself during our ten minute drive.

reposting here so it doesn't get lost - I replied to my post #108 above, as follows:

My 2023 Atlas R got the software update. The navigation system has moderately improved, but I still have issues where it suddenly shows us "offroad" miles from our actual location, and attempts to re-direct us back to our route. This is an accident waiting to happen! I have reported the issue twice to NHTSA with photos as I feel this is a major safety issue. I hope everyone is doing the same if they encounter this issue!

Ken, will you please specify which update you mean. Like what is the TSB bulletin number? Or the software version number?

To all '23 owners: There appears to be a software update for the CarPlay navigation issues, but I have been unable to confirm it. Has anyone with a '23 received this update? If so, do you happen to know what Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) to reference and do you know if this update corrects the issue? Thanks!

I have a problem with navigation. My location is not determined correctly, the route is constantly being reroute. vw atlas cs 2020 sel premium. This happens with regular navigation and with Google / Apple maps when connected via wire. The problem is 100% with the car. Took it to the dealer (Washington). They said it was a big problem and VW didn't know how to fix it. I'll call customer care. does anyone have the same problem?
There are hundreds of us with the same problem. In addition to the apps not working neither does my VW navigation work. I think it is time for a class action law suite. Does anyone agree?

First I filed a complaint with the NHTSA online. I believe this to be a safety issue that could cause a death. The Nav system has instructed me suddenly to start making turns to get "back on course" and I look at the screen and it shows us 50 miles from where we actually are. I have had the TSB installed update as suggested at the dealer. It does work better. But still suddenly fails. I think if enough people file complaints with the NHTSA they will look at a recall for this issue. If not, a class action suit is warranted.

I had the nav/phone issues since May 2023. In June, I took my 2020 Atlas CS SEL Premium to the dealer in Minneapolis and after a couple of days they informed me that I needed a new "Car-Net Module". It is on backorder with no ETA available, this is from VW's Customer Care department. The parts manager told me that most of these modules are sourced in Ukraine, hence don't hold your breath for one.

We returned to Tucson, AZ this fall (we are snowbirds), and needed an oil change. While at our selling dealer getting the oil changed, I let them know about our Nav/phone issues, expecting the same diagnosis. They wanted to keep the car for a day or two to see what their guys could do. 48 hours later, everything is all sorted and everything works! They rebooted/reprogrammed the offending module and discovered a marginally adequate battery that they thought compromised the module from booting up properly. Whatever, these guys here in Tucson went the extra mile and truly diagnosed the real problem and causes and fixed it. Hopefully, it continues to function. We shall see.

PS - the battery was out of warranty by a few miles (naturally), so I had to buy a new one. However they gave me a deal and I am a happy camper.
I guess I’m late to the party judging by all these older comments from last year. But long story short, I have the same problem with the onboard Navi and CarPlay GPS since they replaced my battery last year. Today is my 4th day back at the dealership. I mentioned on Monday that I’m having this issue since my battery was replaced. They told me it shouldn’t have anything to do with the battery, most likely a software update. I got the car back Monday, issue still exists. Tuesday they said they ran diagnostic, it needs a new CarNet module. Module replaced, issue stil exists. Wednesday they said it probably needs to be calibrated and that they requested a brand new software from VW, issue still exists. Today they are checking the battery thanks to your comment I read and showed them. Fingers crossed!

What year Atlas do you have?

We have had a similar problem (2021 SEL R-Line), although not with the Car-Play functions. Ours seemed to originate with the base nav and only began after the dealer proactively updated the infotainment system. This is while the vehicle was still under warranty and leased (we have since purchased it) and immediately upon picking it up, the map was frozen/glitchy. Didn't have time to return so I reset the system, which can be done by holding the power button for a few seconds.

Our issue is that it will no longer save the home/work addresses and prior destinations after a key cycle. Although the issue began under warranty, they won't address it now that it is out of warranty. I did go through the prior comments and did not see this mentioned but has anyone gotten an OTA (Over the Air) update for the Car-Net/Infotainment module? These vehicle should be capable of receiving those and would eliminate the need for a dealer visit.

Otherwise, it seems that the dealer is replacing the module itself, to the degree that it has resulted in intergalactic backorder. Likely because dealers are just replacing in lieu of diagnosis. My plan is to locate and inspect this module to see if there are any issues. I can't tell you how many times that things like this come down to a connection issue. I may even go as far as disassembly to see if there are any visible problems, such as poorly formed solder joints. From what I can tell, this is what the module they are replacing looks like:

Has anyone on here received their new module and confirmed that it resolved the issue?

Thanks for the picture. It raises another issue. Many of us were told that the CarNet module was made in the Ukraine but the picture says made in Vietnam. Is it just that VW does not want to provide replacements till the cars are out of warranty and we have to pay?

I will have to check what mine says when I access it. Typically, manufacturers will use a couple different suppliers for electronic components so it is possible that it is made in a couple different places. A lot of times there are stipulations on how far the supplier is from the manufacturers assembly site, for logistical purposes. This is how you end up hearing the term "bad batch" when it comes to assembled components like this. This is also why I want to possibly inspect this one internally.

Unfortunately, this is a true statement in my opinion. The entire vehicle warranty period is somewhat based on the quality of the parts being used. During my time with Ford, we were finding that the issues were mainly related to connection/pin fit. Sometimes, simply disconnecting and reconnecting the connector will resolve this. On the dealer side, this typically results in misinformation. The scenario is that the part has already been ordered so the tech may just install the new part, unintentionally resolving the connection issue in the process. This will make it appear that the module resolved the problem when in reality, the root cause was the connection.

Since the issue I am having is consistent, I will be able to do some comparative troubleshooting.
