ATLAS 2021: Okay, so my iPhone is already connected via blue tooth. It’s the cars gps locators that the iPhone uses when connecting to the car that makes the Maps or Waze unusable!
Are you disabling the VW Bluetooth?

Again, there are reports that it’s a car communicating with Verizon that is causing the issue.
My suggestion is to turn off the cars GPS. Mine has worked flawlessly since I installed the adapter

I don't get why Verizon would have anything to do with maps unless you were using VW NAV. Apparently it does. To your other question: My 2020 does not have Bluetooth built-in so have to use a USB Bluetooth adapter. Maybe if you were able to turn VW BT off and run it through the adapter it may bypass the issue. If you can turn VW BT off and willing to spend the $30. Give it a go. I live in S.FL and never had an issue with maps. I just wanted my phone to connect automatically (no USB). Good luck. -jim

Turning off the cars GPS/Nav is not a user function!

I’ve tried, but to my knowledge, there is no user option to turn the cars BT off (I had thought of that too) Yes, evenly wirelessly the cars many GPS Locators use the Verizon network for location and overrides the iPhones location! Really a pain. Thanks for your input.

Just thought of something...I do recall originally pairing my phone with the radio so maybe don't turn that off. What did not work was Android Auto through BT. That is why I got the BT Adapter. Doubt there is an option to turn off auto connnecting your phone to just the BT related to Android Auto or Carplay. Thats a bit above my understanding.

Just unlink your phone’s Bluetooth from the car and then link it to the adapter. Doing that will let your phone accept calls, messages, etc. just like it is supposed to work. The adapter does not use the cars GPS it lets the phone use its own GPS that is why it works.

I saw this earlier but didn't post it. That really sounds strange that Apple or Android would allow any 3rd party (Verizon) to essentially hihack their NAV. Best of luck to you getting it worked out.

Well that makes sense if it works. 🏆

I got the following reply today from VW after writing the CEO. The reply came from VW Customer Care (should be Don't Care):

"I can understand why this would be a frustrating situation to be in. The navigation is such an important feature! I know how much I rely on it, and many of our customers need their navigation daily for uses ranging from personal to professional.
For some customers, the vehicle location and other features within navigation are displaying incorrectly on Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the vehicle's native navigation. Changes made by Verizon have cased a mismatch between cell towers and the GPS in some model and model year vehicles. Verizon has agreed to update cell towers across their entire network over the past months, however. We expect this to be completed by the end of August this year."
I recognize this is not an immediate solution, and I understand the gravity of the concern you are dealing with. As soon as a solution becomes available, we will be alerting our dealers and making it a top priority to have affected vehicles updated.
If there are any further questions or concerns I can address for you, please feel free to let me know."

Well end of August is fast approaching, so if it is not fixed by then, this sounds worth spending less than $30. I appreciate the feedback.

3000 miles on a 2024 SEL RLine. Stopped using the car Nav after encountering its quirks and inaccuracies, but sometimes I’ll have it on just to fill the screen. One issue I haven’t seen mentioned in the forums is that while the map displays the correct street names in my community, the voice announces non-existence street names. Where does VW get its Nav data, and how can the map be correct but the lady announcer be wrong? This is in addition to it trying to route me off paved arterials onto gravel side streets. I am in a semi-rural area, but not out in the sticks, and imaps and Google work fine.

If your car doesn’t know where you are… how are the speed limit indicators correct?
The car nav has only lost my actual location a few times. I will assume the speed signs went away but I didn’t notice. Mostly it provides poor routing, or it will try to re-route onto non-existent cross streets. I remember the first time that happened. The car gave a different route than my wife’s iPhone but I decided it was a viable option. Then it tried to re-route onto a right turn that didn’t exist, and passing that did the same thing three more times. I finally turned right on a street I knew to be correct. Not long after that the location icon started veering randomly amd at times parts of the map disappeared as if we were in uncharted territory. Meanwhile iMaps continued to function normally. (I did not use iMaps thru CarPlay that trip)

Resolved navigation issue in 2020 Atlas CrossSport SEL Premium. Navigation off road issue and dynamic road sign temporarily unavailable message on console. Best news, no charge for service.

I went to one VW dealer in Twin Cities and they told me there wasn’t a fix available. Then I went to another, and they did some investigation and found 2 tech updates.

Initially, after service, it was like brand new car with messages prompting me to do the navigation and Infotainment setup and messages the system was learning my routes. The first couple days after service I experienced inaccurate navigation as it learned the routes and now it is working normally for past two weeks with Apple Carplay or built in Infotainment navigation. I also notice the navigation update changed how display in dash looks when it is guiding you with arrows when built in navigation is being used. Looks a lot better fixed navigation and dynamic road sign temporarily unavailable message. Good luck, hope this helps.

Info from technician notes below:

Connected battery charger, checked faults none detected.

Fix:

Tech Bulletin #2064877/2, updated software for front land assist camera, cleared faults

Tech Bulletin #2072698/1, updated radio software, cleared faults

Updated maps to:
5NA919866AF
1320
NAR 2020
That's the same update numbers I have on the same year and model you have. I guess that's the newest version . I do know that TOM TOM is the provider to VW for maps and the navigation system is a LG screen.
