I purchased the 2024 Atlas Cross Sport in August 2024. I have 2 issues. The engine cover was removed by dealer in April of 2025 due to fire hazard recall. New engine cover will not be available until December 2025 at the earliest. I also have had a critical issue where the transmission locks up if the computer system senses the vehicle has the POTENTIAL of rolling while idling in nuetral. It happens on a very, very slight incline. The transmission locks up in nuetral mode and will not shift. There is a “rolling hazard” warning on the dash and a beeping warning sound. This status remains for EXACTLY 10 minutes after which the computer resets the transmission. (If you shut the engine off and restart the engine, the 10 minute period resets and just starts over and you still need to wait EXACTLY 10 minutes.). AFTER EXACTLY 10 MINUTES IN THE ENGINE OFF MODE, the transmission can then be shifted with a loud click sound. The dash then shows an error message of a transmission fault. After shutting off and restarting the engine twice the error message goes away. This has happened three times in one year. (Tucson airport park and ride, Albuquerque truck stop, in front of my house blocking the street). This would be a frigging disaster in a freeway traffic jamb. Dealer could find no problem as there was no fault or error code at the time of dealer check. The cause MAY result from accidentally bumping the shifter into neutral while reaching for the “park” button and not having the brake peddle firmly pushed. But I have not tried to intentionally recreate the issue, yet.

Anyone else have this problem.

Welcome. The engine cover issue is frustrating. I took a different course and refused to allow them to remove mine. Have had two services done since the recall and each time I just checked to make sure it’s properly secured afterward. My dealer has not promised a date when the replacements would be available. December would be nice.
As to your transmission lock up issue I have not had anything like that. I do often try to shift gears with my foot lightly on the brake and sometimes find that the shift does not occur because I did not have brakes pressed hard enough. An example would be backing out of my garage then trying to go from reverse to drive without a hard stop in between. I find it irritating at the drive-through car wash that I cannot shift from neutral to drive without pressing the brakes and stopping the vehicle. I understand that it’s a safety feature, but it makes the car wash conveyor exit difficult. Hope you keep us posted as the reoccurrences of your anomaly occur and hopefully a solution is found.
