I am having the same issue. The dealership says it is "Germlin" that they can't find. I can be stopped at a red light and it will shut off on it's own, this is both with the auto start/stop ignited and not, I've tried both ways. The car says manually restart the vehicle. So I will be in traffic and I have to quickly put it back in park and restart the vehicle. This IS NOT SAFE!!!
They say no codes come up, which is why they say it is a "Germlin", without a code they can't fix anything.

I have a 2019 Atlas SE that is shutting down at random times when it is put into park. This is not the auto stop/start feature. It is completely turning the car off and must be restarted again. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Yes, the dealership had my car two times. Replaced a valve and a carbon filter. So far it’s working.

Having the same random shut-off of engine issues. Have to put in Park and restart. So you are saying Dealer can't help fix this? It isn't safe, happens while sitting at red light, turning into driveway, or backing up to park.

That's exactly what mine does. The dealership just put their hands up and said they couldn't find anything and sent me away. Ridiculous, if I got in a wreck, I would think VW would be liable for this crap! And now it's either live with it or purchase another car which I can't afford!

My wifes 2019 SE will randomly shut off when pulling up to a stop sign/light and when driving in parking lots. She always disables the auto start/stop function. Have you taken your vehicle in to a dealership? Our local dealership (Harrisburg PA) "could not recreate the issue". I'm certain that they also did not hook up to the vehicle to check for anything other than past thrown diagnostic codes. Have you found a resolution for this issue?

YES, mine does the same. THIS IS NOT SAFE!! VW dealership says they can't find the problem, sorry not sorry. Deal with it lady, like I'm just making it up. Seems this is happening to many others and it is a bigger issue they need to solve!
I had this happen today in traffic. Had to break to a stop and it turned fully off with message I had to manually restart. Quickly had to put it in park and restart in rush hour traffic.

I have a 21.5 ACS. It has the "ECO" button to delete the auto shut off function. IDK if all years do but I have not experienced the random shutoff, have to put in park to restart issue.

Just had my 2 year service and dealer did the zip tie fix for driver door harness. I had no symptoms as to this recall and asked what the symptoms were. Service Mgr said "random windows going up/down, car shutting off, all kinds of electrical issues".

IDK what years the recall is for, but dealership has a fix which is just using a zip tie to hold 2 connectors together which can apparently cause havoc in several areas if that connection gets sketchy

But again I have otherwise not had any of those, or this threads topic, issues. Just wanted to share the driver door harness recall issue.

I have a 2018 Atlas R-series. We just bought the car in October '23 and already had to replace the battery due to it being a "bad battery". The 'Error: Start/Stop' message kept popping up, and then the check engine light came up with a code to replace the canister pump valve... this was before the car died and needed a jump. Took it in and they said to just replace the bad battery and all will be well k the check engine light did go off, so that's a plus). Did that, and we are having the same issue with the car stalling out. We always turn off the Start/Stop feature when we drive, and it still will shut off the engine (even while driving, it doesn't need to be at a full stop). Took it in again and all they said was the battery needed to be adjusted. BS in my opinion. We'll see what happens over the weekend. We will be taking it get a second opinion if it still does this.

I have a 2019 vw atlas se I’m having that same issue now it shuts off while I am driving it shut off twice while driving in traffic on the highway which is very dangerous bought it to the dealer and they are saying it is the battery to me that sounds like a alternator issue because it is not charging the battery

I have a 2021 Atlas that I bought in May. Today, My car shut off as soon as I was crossing a busy intersection. Wouldn’t turn on and i ended up just dead in the middle of the road so I had to put it in neutral and let it drift to get out the way for oncoming traffic. There were oncoming cars driving toward me (thankfully they weren’t distracted and slowed down). It’s at the dealership now… let’s see what they say!

My 2019 started doing that too and I also noticed my Avg MPG wasn’t adjusting as well. It ended up being the charcoal filter canister being clogged not allowing the emissions or something with the gas fumes to escape and it sucked my gas tank in like sucking the juice out of a Capri sun. They had to replace filter and the whole gas tank.
