Revealed during the 2018 New York Auto Show, VW has just announced that their newest SUV will come in the form of the Atlas Cross Sport. It's set to make its public debut in Pebble Beach, where Volkswagen will be showing a near production model. Its essentially a two row version of the Atlas, with some sleeker styling. The concept had a 3.6l VR6 under the hood, which produces 280hp and 265lb-ft of torque. It also has two electric motors which allow it to run as a full electric or PHEV. Thoughts?

This is a fantastic looking concept and its smart that VW is already introducing electrification to their SUV's. I doubt that it will be getting the famed VR6 under the hood in production however, because that's already been cut from other models in their lineup.

The Passat GT was given the VR6, though VW has confirmed that it will be a one year run. I'm guessing that a vehicle of this size wont have much of a pure electric range. We'd be lucky to see 30 miles in real world use, but that is plenty for inner city commuting.

VW will have to work on delivering better sporty character because the Passat GT lacked it big time, everyone was expecting GLI levels of performance.

Instead what did we get?... a mild performer that will eventually get eaten for lunch by Toyota.

The Passat GT is not a performance sedan, and VW never claimed that it was. It was designed for those who wanted something more engaging/sporty out of their family hauler and on that premise it succeeds.

The new Accord is a bit of a sleeper too, especially with all the tuning options that are already available. Aftermarket support is one area where VW still falls a bit short of rivals. Seen very few options for the GT.
