Maybe the Cross Sport is a more off-road friendly version? That seems to be pretty hot right now, cars that can handle more than what you'd ever need them to do. 
Volkswagen Atlas To Spawn More Variants
SUV and crossovers sales are on the rise and Volkswagen is taking advantage of that trend by offering more models in this segment, one of which is the new Atlas. Now AutoGuide has confirmation that VW plans to introduce a new SUV for the B segment similar to the Atlas.
Some may recall the two trademarks VW applied for last month: the “Atlas Allsport” and “Atlas Cross Sport”. We thought they may have been hinting towards different trim levels for the Atlas as the Allsport nameplate is similar to the Golf Alltrack. But now Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of the North American Region, says the “Atlas family” is set to expand.
Though we’re not sure what that expansion would entail, Woebcken did talk about creating another volume seller at the Mk7 Jetta’s teaser event yesterday. There was even talk of a possible coupe, an idea that’s feasible considering how versatile the MQB platform is. Perhaps a crossover is in the works as the name “Cross Sport” could be referring to such a model and it’ll give customers a more compact option if the Atlas proves to be too large.
But this is all speculation based on the confirmation of an Atlas family. Let us know what you think of this new development below.
