Halloween may be over, but X-Tomi's Volkswagen Atlas R rendering is still circulating around automotive publications.

The rendered seven seater SUV is wearing a pumpkin painted costume complete with a blacked-out grille, redesigned front and rear bumper, turn signals in place of fog lamps, sportier side skirts, a set of new wheels, and it’s all topped off with an 'R' badge.

If VW really does release a R variant, it needs to make more than 280. Autoevolution has heard rumors of the two engine that the new Atlas could come with. We may see a 238 HP 2.0 L 4-cylinder turbocharged TSI and an older 280 HP 3.6-liter VR6 engine under the hood. There’s only 42 ponies separating the two engine, so an Atlas R will need a different engine.

To better compete with North America rivals, the Atlas will have a long list of equipment including a digital cockpit, infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, premium audio system, and safety features like automatic braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor, forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control systems.

This is just an idea of what the Atlas R variant could look like and we’ll be seeing the regular Atlas at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show for its world premiere later this month.

I would absolutely love to see one of these competing in the Performance SUV category but I highly doubt it happening. Something in the 500 range would be crazy but obviously won't happen. I would like to see an aggressive aero kit though

I'm surprised to see no use of carbon fiber. If there's anything to add when it comes to a rendering like this its hint of carbon. Even a carbon fiber grille would have been a nice touch and practical on a production level.
