Design

Being in a class known to check off a lot of boxes, VW made sure to live up to that standard by offering just about everything you could ask for without breaking the bank as you would over at Audi. At the very core of this is big and bold design that sets expectations high. Stepping inside its a similar story. With all three rows capable of carrying the average American adult, fold down 2nd (captain) and 3rd rows, 17 cup holders and enough sufficient USB ports to keep everyone connected on the go, there's no denying its on-the-road livability. Surrounding all passengers are Audi-like design cues, materials and finishes.

This Size Fits All
There's enough headroom, legroom, and just plain room to keep you and six of your nearest and dearest quite comfortable.
  • Panoramic Sunroof - Running almost the length of all three rows, the available panoramic sunroof lets the outdoors in. Want that convertible feeling? Just open it up.
  • Bold design from every angle - Atlas is built like, well, Atlas. Powerful and muscular, with creased lines in front and on the sides to give it a dose of lean and mean.
  • 20" alloy wheels - A big SUV deserves some big wheels. And these available 20" alloys are the perfect choice. Their size and bold design make them a great fit.
  • Hands-free Easy Open power liftgate - With the key in your pocket, kick your foot under the rear bumper of the Atlas to open the hatch. This available feature is ideal when your hands are full.
  • Remote power liftgate - In a hurry? This available feature lets you press the key to automatically unlock and open the hatch before you get to it.

Three Rows Isn't a Crowd
Atlas accommodates three rows of seats with ease. Each row is large enough for kids adults, or a combination of both to sit comfortably.
  • 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space - With the 2nd and 3rd rows folded down, the Atlas has 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space. You may need more stuff just to take advantage of it.
  • 2nd row with room for three child seats - Now all the kids can have their own room. The 2nd row gives three kids plenty of space, even when they bring extra seats.
  • 2nd-row captain’s chairs - More like admiral’s chairs. Available as an option, they’re comfortable and offer more space for each individual passenger.
  • 17 cupholders - Sippy cups and bottles. Juice boxes and the occasional chocolate shake. We say bring ’em on.
  • Versatile and flexible cargo space - If you have more stuff than space, you can fold the 3rd row down easily for extra room. Still need more? It’s easy to fold down the 2nd row too.
  • Crafted interior cabin - Thanks to diamond quilted-design cloth seating surfaces and a multi-function steering wheel, the Atlas looks just as good inside as it does outside.
  • USB ports - Seven people will probably carry a lot of devices, so every trim level offers at least one USB port. On some trim levels you can get up to three additional USB ports, including two rear USB charging ports.
  • Easy 3rd-row access - Getting into the 3rd row is so easy, you can do it with one hand. Just fold the 2nd row forward with a pull and push.
  • Plenty of 3rd-row legroom - When we say we have a lot of 3rd-row legroom, we’re not kidding around. Ours is class leading.

Technology

If you're any bit familiar with what's normal for for in-car and safety technology these days then the Atlas won't be much of a surprise. VW made sure to include enough for the Atlas' price point all while living up to what most buyers and the industry expects. With whats offered here, you will not feel left out. Keeping you connected is a 12.3 inch Digital Cockpit display that allows up to four driver profiles, a range of personalization and customization options, along with an impressive mapping system. Complementing that display is a 6.5" infotainment system featuring the latest in in-car entertainment via Volkswagen Car-Net App-Connect for select devices.

Volkswagen Digital Cockpit
The available 12.3" display is a true breakthrough. Instead of the traditional instrument cluster, information can be displayed digitally in high resolution.
  • Driver Personalization - The Atlas can store up to four driver profiles, remembering your personalization preferences for a wide variety of different settings and systems.
  • Wide Map Navigation View - You shouldn’t get lost trying not to get lost. So the available wide map navigation view adjusts the size of the map, making it even bigger and more prominent.

Take in a concert on your way to the concert
The Atlas comes equipped for non-stop entertainment, from touchscreen sound systems to the ability to bring your favorite tunes, soundtracks, and podcasts along with you.
  • Color touchscreen sound system - With an SD card reader and Volkswagen Car-Net® App-Connect for compatible devices all included, the standard 6.5" screen makes an ideal entertainment center.
  • SiriusXM® Satellite Radio - Get your fingers warmed up. SiriusXM offers music, plus major sporting events and some of the biggest names in entertainment, news, and comedy are available with a 3-month All Access trial subscription.

Take your favorite apps for a ride.
To start App-Connect simply plug in your compatible smartphone and watch as your select apps appear on the touchscreen display of your Volkswagen.
  • Fender® Premium Audio System - Forget the family sing-along. Enjoy your favorite artists with the available 480-watt Fender Premium Audio System.

The Brains Behind The Brawn
There's plenty of technology to help keep you informed and more confident, from the available driver Assistance features to the available Volkswagen Digital Cockpit.
  • VW Car-Net® Security & Service - Where did I last park? Did I lock the door? The available VW Car-Net Security & Service feature can tell you, as well as handle bigger tasks like calling for help. (Explore more VW Car-Net)
  • Remote start - On cold days, warm up the Atlas while you stay inside sipping your coffee. (Or tea.) Just use the available remote start feature.
  • Overhead View Camera (Area View) and Rearview Camera System - The rearview camera helps you see what’s behind you. The available Area View uses multiple cameras to help give you a better view.
  • Climatronic® 3-zone automatic climate control - This available feature offers three different zones of temperature control: driver, front passenger, and one that covers both the 2nd and 3rd rows.
  • Advanced personalization settings - Create a user profile and the Atlas will remember things like your preferred driver seat position, radio stations, and temperature, just to name a few.
  • Pedestrian Monitoring (included in Front Assist) - This available feature has a radar sensor to help alert you if a pedestrian is headed into the vehicle’s forward path. If the driver doesn’t respond adequately to the audible warnings, the car can brake automatically with full force.

Safety

The Atlas is a top safety pick and should further push you closer to buying if all its other features outline in this article didn't already sell you on it enough. The very strict NHTSA gave it 5-Stars with IIHS backing it up as a top safety pick. The cabin and overall construction has been greatly improved with a rigid safety cage and high-strength steel in various body panels to keep impacts at bay and away from the immediate cabin area. Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and Intelligent Crash Response System are just a couple of advanced safety tech working around the clock to diminish the odds and impact of most collisions.

Peace of mind is top of mind.
We never forget that the most important things in an Atlas are you and your family.

NHTSA 5-Star Safety Rating - The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas has earned a 5-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. (NHTSA). Proof that Atlas is a smart choice.
IIHS Top Safety Pick - The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas has been named a 2017 Top Safety Pick when equipped with Front Assist by the prestigious Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Safety cage - Front and rear crumple zones help absorb crash energy, while a rigid safety cage helps deflect it away from the driver and passengers. We’ve got you covered on all sides.
High-strength steelSpecially alloyed high-strength steel is used in certain exterior body panels to help enhance its sturdiness. Smart thinking down to the sheet metal.
Automatic Post-Collision Braking System - Not every collision brings a car to a stop. That’s why our vehicles include the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System. It can also help slow the vehicle down after a collision, helping reduce the chance of additional impacts.

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) - Monitoring and maintaining proper air pressure in your tires helps with efficiency and safety. The TPMS helps alert you to a loss of tire pressure so you know when to add air.
  • Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS) - In the event of a collision that deploys the airbags, the ICRS can turn off the fuel pump, unlock the doors, and activate the hazard lights.34 It helps react if you might not be able to.
  • Seven stability-enhancing systems - From Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD), which helps maintain appropriate stopping power during a hard-braking situation, to Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which can adjust engine throttle and apply corrective forces to the wheels that need them most, there are in total seven stability-enhancing systems to help you maintain control of your vehicle.

Performance

Don't expect a show stopper here but what you can expect is enough to suit most of your performance related needs. 5000-lb towing capacity can be limiting but at the same time up to par with long standing rivals like the Toyota Highlander. For a three-row SUV making 270 torque with the assistance of an 8-speed automatic transmission, we surely have no complaints. While it isn't an ideal hauler, you do get control over the gears for spirited driving although with up to 22MPG City, fun can cost you and quick. If you need to push you dollar or wish to experience less range anxiety, opt for the 2.0L Turbo engine that can run on regular-octane fuel.

Playtime is never over.
What’s up this weekend? Beach? Mountains? Desert? The Atlas can take you, your family, and the necessary provisions with room to spare.
  • 5,000-lb towing capacity - When properly equipped, the Atlas has enough power to tow trailers with ease.35 So your home away from home can get away from home.
  • 8-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® and Sport mode - Having eight speeds can help improve efficiency and performance. In Tiptronic® mode, you can shift manually and take control of your driving experience.
  • 4MOTION® with Active Control - With the turn of a dial, you can switch between four different all-wheel-drive modes to the one that fits your current driving situation.

With 4MOTION® the weather is practically irrelevant.
Depending on conditions, 4MOTION automatically distributes power between front and back wheels as needed to help optimize traction and provide greater stability.

The big engine that could.
Or should that be big engines? Both the standard 2.0L turbo and available 3.6L V6 are more than capable of getting the job done.

2.0L Turbo
The turbocharged Atlas proves that a performance engine and family SUV coexist quite well.
  • 22MPG - CITY
  • 26MPG - HWY
  • 235 HP WITH PREM. FUEL
  • 258 LB-FT OF TORQUE WITH PREM. FUEL

3.6L V6
This V6 monster boasts horsepower and torque to spare. It’s proof that Atlas doesn’t just look big and powerful. It really is.
  • 18MPG - CITY
  • 25MPG - HWY
  • 276 - HORSEPOWER
  • 266 - LB-FT OF TORQUE

In a way it can be said that this is the multi-tool of automobiles. It does a lot and does it well enough but not to any extreme or impressive extent. From what I can make of their marketing a product like this is best suited to those in the city and in the suburbs, both being demographics that are looking for that "multi-tool" of a vehicle.
