Hey there, we've had quite a few issues with our Atlas since we purchased it in January!!!

This is now our 4th time to the dealership in 6 months! Anyone else having these issues?

1) Check engine light on - for evaporative fuel system issue. Replaced sensor
2) Check engine light on - for evaporative fuel system issue. Replaced evap canister
3) Check engine light on - for evaporative fuel system issue. Tech had kinked a hose when replacing the canister.

4)Check engine light on intermittently - they're saying it's for the catalytic converters and they need to be replaced, will take 4+ days to get the parts and fix...

Is this happening to anyone else out there? Never seen cats have to be replaced on a car so early in life... did we get a lemon?

So... update. Volkswagen corporate is now involved... No one can seem to give me an explanation as to why our Atlas needs new cats, AND its' gonna take another week and a half to get the parts... Strange since the factory is only 6 hours away.. this must mean they're replacing a ton of cats of Atlas's right? Also interesting I got a recall letter in the mail about the emissions label being wrong... think they messed up their software since everything seems to be related to the emissions system? Feeling frustrated...

The sticker that needs to be replaced is simply related to the fact the current label is non-compliant with regulatory requirements....nothing to do with software etc. Your cat issues are just what they are maybe...issues with the cats.

We are also having issues with the check engine light constantly on and off and roof leak. The dealer has said that it is reprogramming/ sensor and software updates. The dealer claimed the sunroof was not closing due to sensor and software updates as well as the check engine light. I have contacted VW corporate and have been assigned a regional case manager. The check engine keeps coming back on right after we leave the dealer. The latest is that the check engine light is due to the catalytic converter is bad and needs to be replaced. Parts are not available to fix and on order approximately a week for delivery. Parts in and scheduled to be replaced in about a week and a half from today. Our Atlas has been back to the dealer it seems on a biweekly basis with constant issues and recalls. We have had the vehicle for about 6 months and are frustrated with the back and forth with VW corporate and the Regoinal Case Mananger. We have filed under the lemon law with VW corporate and put them on notice. If the check engine light goes on after the catalytic converter replacement or the roof leaks the lemon law will take effect.

Atlas Cat Converter issues...

I had 3 check engine lights in 2 weeks that would not clear on 2018 Atlas. They just called me to say they need to replace the catalytic converter to get the codes to stick. No ETA on parts or how long it will take to fix. I had to speak to a senior service advisor to finally get this info. they "newer" service adviser either did not have the knowlede, or was willing to tell me the issue the first 2 times.

I purchased a 2018 R-Line SE in January and am having the same issues (in addition to the numerous recalls). It started with the check engine light turning off and on intermittently about 2 months ago. Now it just stays on. I have been in contact with my local dealer and corporate and so far no resolution or explanation. This is my third VW and I have always defended my decision to stick with a make with a less than perfect rep because I was beyond satisfied with the product. Now I’m not so sure...

We just had the same thing... a little more than frustrated. We were told years ago on another vehicle (Mazda Millenia) that that was an indicator of a larger overall problem potentially with the vehicle.

We get terrible gas mileage and feel like we are having to fill up every other day. But I love the car, but we have the SEL premium, maybe I will trade down for just an SE model, or a Tiguan, don’t need the extra bells and whistles.

We are having similar issues. Our Atlas is 7 months old. Our engine light came on about one month ago. They told us that we had a bad batch of gas. We were charged $300 to empty and refill our gas tank.

One week later, our engine light came back on. That time they said it was our catalytic converter and that they requested a replacement. They told us the replacement could take 2 months or longer because they were back ordered.

The dealership told us not to worry about the engine light anymore because they knew what the problem was. We were to ignore it unless the engine light starts to flash.

That is not acceptable to us. We don’t feel safe driving this car. We are waiting for something to happen while we or our children are driving. The engine light comes on if we drive several hours or if we make several trips in a short period of time. It might be off when we get out of the car in the evening and turn back on when we turn the car on on the morning.

This is a new car..

We are in contact with VW Customer service.

Bad Product

I have had this vehicle for 18 months now and it has been in the shop for four of those months.
I have had the following repairs work done:
The front struts repaired,
The transmission valve body replaced,
The gas tank fuel pump replaced (had to wait 10 weeks for the part),
The heater core replaced,
Waiting on thermostat for climate system (30 day back-order),
Waiting for parts to replace the catalytic converters (backordered, no idea of delivery date),
.
VW Customer Care says there is nothing they can do for me.

Stay away from this vehicle.

i suggest you look into your local lemon laws to figure out at what point they come into effect.

Still waiting for a response Catalytic Converters

I am having very poor gas mileage on my 2018 Atlas Rline. We picked it up on May 7, 2018 and from the beginning we had been getting 550-600kms to a tank of gas. Now I'm getting 400-470 km to a tank. This all started right after my first visit to the dealership for my first service, a recall and a software update. The next day, within 10 kms of driving it, my check engine light came on and the dealer is saying the Atlas needs catalytic convertors with no ETA on the parts. It has now been a month and still now availability. I am keeping my gas receipts and taking pictures of my dash to confirm the poor mileage I am now experiencing since this update was done. I want to know who will be giving me my lost dollars of gas due to this software update. I was not informed before by the dealer that there was a possibility this software could cause a defective emission restriction, but I had been informed AFTER by the dealer that this was the third Atlas this has happened to at their dealership alone! My vehicle was running perfect with no light on until the update was done. My biggest issue with all this I was forced by VW to forfeit my 2014 VW Passat 6 speed TDI and to be a loyal VW owner (this is now my 5th VW/Audi vehicle), I got into another VW. Now I'm having even more emissions issues, and I no longer have a diesel! I'm expecting this issue to be resolved by compensating my fuel loss from the date I had the update done until the day it is repaired and this issue is corrected. This check engine light is not only an embarrassment when I have friends in the vehicle but I can no longer use my remote start because of the check engine light, and this is the time of year to be using it the most, especially with an infant! This is not what I'm expecting in a brand new vehicle.:frown2:

I just experienced this over the past week. Went in for oil change. They did some recalls, including an software update (ecu) and now MIL = P0420 - bad Bank 1 cat. Cats are back ordered, Yay!

I'm more suspicious of the update than anything, cats typically don't go bad, either they get damaged or plug up over years of service.

I bet once the cat is replaced the issue will come back, oh well, wait and see...

I had my engine light come on and when bringing it in to dealer they also diagnosed it to be the catalytic converter. ETA for parts is 4-6 weeks. This is not my first issue. A month ago I had the water pump replaced after noticing the engine coolant was a little below the add line. Anybody else have their water pump replaced?

Similar issue. 2018 SEL w/23k miles. Perfect til 20K software update at oil change. Now engine cranks 2-3 seconds instead of instantaneous as before and check engine light (catalytic converter code) on intermittently. Converters on order with dealer but wondering if problem isn't with the update? Either way a bit concerning and can only hope VW knows what they're doing. Hmmm.
