Rear window sun shades?

Can anyone tell me what VW is calling the pull up window shades on the back doors? I have one that the posts that hold in up in place are broken. I checked with the dealership and they told me it was an assembly and would cost almost $500. There has to be a way to fix this other than that? Does anyone have any ideas? I can’t find anything on the internet. Someone has to have a hack or a after market part for these?

Those are privacy shades.

Please provide a photo. $500 sounds high, although it may only be available as an assembly not individual components.

the tab you are describing sounds like it would be prone to failure, so there has got to be a solution somewhere. This would be a good opportunity for someone with a 3D printer to step in with replacement parts, just like they are doing with classic cars.

Pic 1 is the good one, pic 2&3 is the broken one each side. Pic 4 is the upper part of the shade. I think if I could just get the peice that is broken it is held on by a rod that runs the whole length of the shade. Take out two or three stitches and slide the rod out. Replace the part, slide the rod back in and a couple stitches back in to hold it in place. Not $300 for the whole assembly and $200

Don’t pay the dealership or anyone else to fix it. My son broke my rear passenger door side clip that holds it up. I ordered the part and it is held in place by two screws. A simple 3-5 min task. By the way…the part is the same for both doors.
I was told it was all an assembly. Do you know the part number you ordered? Did you get it from the dealership or online?
You could start here and look for you year and model. Looks like it is #26 on the parts list but does not show the part you need. This above was just searching with Atlas.

Same thing happened to my Atlas. They quoted me $840 to fix it.
Looking at the parts list, I don't think the screen latch (as I call it) has a formal name. Item #26 seems to be the catch that the screen latches onto. I believe @justpassin is looking for part #23, which is indeed $500 and requires taking apart the door (probably where that $340 in labor comes in).
Bad engineering. This part should be individually replaceable!
The same thing happened to me. Following this thread in case anyone finds a resolution.

Did you find a replacement? For that small latch
Did anyone else figure out which piece it is that JustPassin's picture shows? I have the same exact problem.
Hi all I can confirm that you have to replace the entire piece in the door frame (see other posting with part number) they do not just sell the small part .. luckily mine is under warranty and is being replaced by my dealership (I believe If a cheaper option was available they would have presented it). Hopefully someone can figure out how to 3-d print because that cost is overwhelming for a tiny part. Hope this helps

Incredibly helpful. Any idea what constitutes it being under warranty? I have a 22 atlas, so I would think from a time lapse perspective it would be?

Mine is a 2021 certified pre owned and that piece was broken when I purchased so they are covering it

The bracket part that the sunshade latches to is 3CN 861 789 82V. I just picked one up for my 2019 Atlas (rear passenger side) for $25.

Picked it up at thelocal dealership.
Thanks for all the suggestions in the thread! Also, I'm sorry to hear about your broken sunshade. I understand wanting to save money, especially on something like this. Have you considered checking out https://snаpshades.com/? It's a great website that sells affordable sunshades for a variety of makes and models. I just got some for my car and they were super easy to install and look great! Plus, they're cheaper than what you'd find at the dealership. Check them out and see if they have something that fits your car. It is a great alternative to the ones you can buy in shops.
