What do you recommend? I notice several that are advertised like the Dawn Enterprise fo about $70.00. Can it be installed by a novice?
How does it look?
Thanks,
Motodoc42!
Have you gone with something for your bumper yet? I have been looking at some things on Amazon that are for protecting your bumper when loading cargo and looking for opinions.

Bumper Protection - Rubber or Chrome?

Just wondering what everyone's experience is with the Chrome Rear Bumper Protection Plate? I need to get something to protect my bumper. I am trying to decide on rubber or chrome. The chrome looks nice, but I am worried about how long it will stay looking nice (minimal scratches?)?

If anyone has experience with this I would appreciate your thoughts!
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum argyleeyes :)

I have the chrome because it came with it, and I like it.

I also use a Doggy Ramp for my Fur Buddy I went to a second
hand store and bought a small rug I lay between the ramp and
the top of the bumper.

I don't want any more chrome. I'm thinking of going with black rubber, but my Atlas is black. I think it depends on which color you have and what looks better on yours, chrome or rubber.

how well does it fit? Some of the reviews say it doesn’t fit the bevel of the bumper very well.
Mine fit perfectly. Here's a YouTube link showing the install process I used. It's the same rear protector as the one I got from Amazon, but this one is from ebay. I used Amazon in case it didn't work I could return it easily. Its held up well and stayed securely attached.

looked at this product from amazon and appears there is a gap in the overhang where it doesn't sit flush with bumper. it is a universal product that has to be molded to fit and is designed for a bumper that drops straight down while the atlas edge has a 45 degree slant then drops down. there is a definite gap between the material and bumper where dirt will get trapped in there and end up scratching the finish if it were to be removed in the future.

although i would prefer black, there doesn't seem to be many other options than the oem for a perfect fit. anyone have oem chrome installed on a platinum grey?

i guess another options is to leave it as is and if it ever gets scratched up then cover it up with a bumper protector lol.

We've got the OEM chrome protector (came on the car) and I would say that it is prone to scuffing/scratching.
The one time I know that I hit it, I was unloading a heavy suit case and bumped it on the guard and it scratched up the guard a bit.
It is not bad, and I'm not even sure you'd notice it if you did not know it was there.
But if you are worried about the cosmetics of it then be aware it may show some scratches.

Our Atlas is white, and like I said the OEM protector is chrome. This it the only picture I have of it at the moment.

Sorry, try to look through the bike lol.
looks great on a light car but want to see how it looks on a darker color. selp already has too much chrome on the back including the trim around the bumper so not too keen on adding more chrome. thinking i should keep it as is and install it when the scratches get bad lol

got a chrome one on ebay and just waiting for rain to die down to install. Barry, what did you not like about it? its plastic and protector itself might get scratched but it should protect the bumper.

if anyone is interested its on ebay for $80 right now...goes for $120+ from vw including tax.

I think it looks cheap (just my opinion)

Got the same item. Easy to install. Looks good. IMO, the black platinum grey looked better then chrome. I put a T hitch bar in the receiver which is also a step. Foot activated lift gate is a challenge but it protects the backside. 🤭

Anyone tried this Amazon one on a Cross Sport? There doesn't seem to be anything for this body style yet. I tried to compare the difference in rear bumper lips and the Cross Sport looks a little less "sloped" then an Atlas.
