Programming Homelink on Atlas

Just got our new SEL Prem. and want to program the Homelink buttons. Problem seems to be that we can't get the Homelink buttons on the same frequency as the remote. When we try to program the buttons with the remote, all we get is a slowly flashing amber button (never turns green as indicated in the manual). If you have had success, where did you aim the remote to get the buttons programmed? We can't even get to the second step of 'learning' the codes. Thanks!

Figured it out finally- I had to hold the remote near the dash board (behind the steering wheel) and not aim it at the steering wheel as instructed in the manual. Then it worked fine. Hope this helps someone else if they encounter the same problem.

Glad to hear it worked out. I programmed mine this weekend. I followed the instructions in the manual, got the green light but it still took pressing the designated button a few times after getting the green light for it to finally control my garage door. Works great now. I'm actually surprised at how far the signal carries. I can open my garage which is tucked back a hundred feet or so from the street.

I'm having the same problem. I bet I have spent over 2 hours total trying to get this program. I have programmed this to previous cars/remotes, so I know it's doable.

I have an Atlas SEL Premium and Liftmaster garage door opener. I hold #1 and 3 on the homelink for 20 seconds. It begins to flash green. I release those buttons. I then press and hold #1 (have tried #2 or 3 as well) while pressing my garage door opener button. I've tried pointing it at the steering wheel, behind the steering wheel, up at the homelink buttons, at the rearview mirror, etc. I've tried pressing the garage door opener button every 2 seconds (even though I'm not in Canada) in each of those locations. The light for the homelink continues to flash amber slowly.

I have a learning garage door opener, so I know I eventually need to hit that button after I complete the step above. But I am stuck. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
Tim

I have an 2018 VW Atlas SEL, and a liftmaster garage door opener. This what I did:
1- Pressed 1 and 3 at the same time until it flashes green .this is just to delete any previous configurations.

2- Press and hold button 1 until it flashes amber then let go of it

3- click the button on your remote control and hold it until the homelink button light starts flashing green

I pointed my remote control At the steering wheel but I also moved it closer to the dashboard and the homelink buttons. At some point I also clicked my remote control several times instead of holding it. Eventually it worked. It was the same with my gate opener
Rauldalvarez you have resolved a problem! A problem I just decided to give up on!

Thanks so much - worked both for my LiftMaster WiFi unit and older chamberlain opener.

My experience was similar to tmm0f5 above.

You should write the user manual!

So odd. My experience was the exact opposite. This was the easiest car I've ever programmed. All of my other cars, BMW/Toyota/Honda, all took forever. I was shocked!

This worked for me too, except for (3) i just held the remote right at my homelink button. My driveway is a bit longer than standard (detached garage in back of lot). While the standard remote can open the garage from the street, the homelink has to be much closer to the garage door for it to operate.

I, unfortunately, don't have the portable remote to press inside the cabin. Am I SOL?

I didn't need it to program my other vehicles with my Chamberlain?

I know for a fact that you don't need the remote, you would have to use the programming button from the unit, however I don't know the right procedure.

I am glad I was able to help!!!
Thank you for the clear instructions. I was able to finally get the green flashing light to indicate that it was successfully programmed, however the programmed button will still not open my garage door. Any ideas? It is an older chamberlain which I was told was compatible.

Also, when trying to follow the directions in the Owner's Manual I got as far as following it to the Open and Closing option, but after that the "Garage door opener" selection was not an option.
So I went back to try again and before I did anything I pushed number "1" and it worked! Seems like it may have taken a bit of time to record the programming. No other explanation! Just happy it is now working. Our other cars were much easier to program.
Vehicle: VW Atlas 2018

Problem- I programmed Homelink button 1 and it works.

When I press button 1, the garage door successfully lifts; but I noticed the green light illuminates for button 2.

Does this happen to anyone else (I.e. A different button illuminates green after using your programmed Homelink button)?
Im finding different answers in different places. Is the homelink standard on the rearview mirror on the 2019 SE/tech package. You would think this would be a basic item in todays market. Test driving this weekend, love the car, but just wondering before i take it back.
I just got my 2019 SEL Premium. The user manual instructions are wrong....at least from my experience. Following those instructions got me nowhere.
The "reset" process of holding 1+3 is correct, but the programming part is not.
What worked for me was pressing and holding both the Homelink (1) button and my handheld remote button at the same time. Light started blinking green right away and everything worked after that.

I have the same problem. I have a Craftsman unit with a Learn button. For several Audis and Fords, I just press the Learn button and program without any difficulty. However, my new 2019 Atlas SEL Premium will not respond to the Learn button and I don't have a remote. Any thoughts?

I had the battery operated one installed in my 2019 S and I have a Craftsman unit as well. I think you will most likely need a remote as the car button must first learn the Craftman's codes, then the opener itself need to sync the rolling code. If you have another car that is programmed to the opener, maybe try pulling it along side the Atlas's drivers side, rolling down the windows and press and hold the other car's button, in place of the remote, to see of the Atlas picks it up and the light goes green.

The way I did it was to hold 1 and 3 to clear everything, then hold the 1 button(or whichever one you want to use) till it slow blinks yellow. Then, press and hold my garage door opener remote near the mirror(would be the steering wheel for you but this is where you can try the button in your other car) till the light goes green. After it is programmed there, you need to go to your garage door opener and press the learn button and then within 30 seconds, go and press the button in the Atlas a few times till the door starts to operate.
