Ordering from a Dealer: End-to-End Process

Visited a local dealer about ordering an Atlas. Was very much discouraged to do so (and to buy something close to me preference from his inventory, or a vehicle that he could secure from another dealer). The dealer cited a order-to-delivery time-line, 90-120 days, in part due to the following:

When an Atlas leaves the Chattanooga factory, it is shipped to one of two final inspection stations either in Jacksonville FL or someplace in Connecticut or Massachusetts. Thereafter, vehicles are shipped to dealerships.

Can anyone confirm this? Doesn't seem to make sense for a variety of reasons, but would love to hear from you folks who have ordered one or from someone who has some insight into the Atlas build/production process.

Regards,

Hi,

I haven't heard anything like this from any of the dealers I visited in my area. Also IMO all cars should be inspected before they leave from their manufacturing plant as it might include more cost for them to transport a car back & forth in case of problems. I was given 6 weeks period max and I heard from my friend's friend a waiting period of 12 weeks for him but 120 days would be too much.

Also I was told in my case that I should get my Atlas within 4 weeks otherwise they will work with me to provide me a loaner car after 4 week period. Good luck!

My understanding is that after the car is produced in Chatanuga

cars are shipped to various depots through the United States. For East coast dealers (about 1000) they are sent from Chattanooga Tennessee to Baltimore Md depot via train, and then loaded on to trucks for delivery.
I ordered a 2021 V6 SEL Premium R Line in June 2020 and found out yesterday that it’s being loaded on the train to Baltimore and will arrive around DEC 15, 2020, only to be off loaded, inspected and have a technical update programmed before delivery, with also the wind deflector installed.
I am hopeful that before year end will be delivered to dealership.
Am in no rush as hopefully VW will have more Cash Incentives prior to year end.

Sounds great. Good luck and sounds like a beautiful vehicle.
Good Morning Guys: What is the best reason to order a new one instead of dealer inventory? Anyone have ideas what is the better/best configuration. I am real close to buying an SEL R-line. Thank You in advance! Jim in Bethlehem, PA.
I ordered my SEL R Line 4 motion Atlas CS the way I wanted it. It took over 6 months and I got what i wanted. However it has already been in shop for a replacement float in gas tank as the Remote Start function would not work. I am very happy with the car.
