Hello, after 20k miles I realize that Valvoline (my go-to spot for the easy drive-in oil change) does not carry the oil necessary to change it for our 2021 Atlas R Line. They have changed my oil for every car I have owned, but say VW requires a special 0-30 European synthetic oil that they do not carry- but they do have several other synthetics. Has anyone run into this? Do you need to go to VW dealer for oil changes? Extremely inconvenient...

Drop the viscosity concern - for your Atlas (and other Euro cars) you focus on "approval". The 0W30 you are looking for only need carry the "VW504.00" approval and I'm sure Valvoline has one...will be a 5W30 vs. 0W...approval trumps viscosity with VW. The 0W30 AND VW504 is a more challenging oil to find beyond the VW dealer. Here's what they should use:

I have been to two VW dealers for oil changes,one in NJ and one in Florida. Only one used VW oil, the other used 5W30 Castrol oil, which was an approved equivalent.

You could purchase your own oil and take it to them to use.
