I am sorry to ask such a simple question. I searched for "key fob replacement", but I could not find anything very clear. I just lost one of my key fobs for our 2019 Atlas. Do I have to have the dealer program it, or is there a way for me to buy one and program it myself with the other key fob and the car itself?

I recently had to buy one myself and pondered the same question. I ended up having to order the fob from the dealer and shell out $200 to have them program it. I called a local locksmith and he told me it was something only the dealer could do.

I was able to shave a bit off the price of the key by ordering a cheaper model that one dealer told me wouldn't work with my car -- even though it ended up working fine.

I bought a 19 atlas SEL it only came with 1 key, the dealer wasn't a VW dealer but is in another city, they ordered me a new fob and thought it could be programmed easily.
This was not true. The local company said it couldnt be done.

I spent about an hour with obd11 trying to figure it out but couldn't.
Ended up taking into a VW dealership to get done.
