Hi everyone,

When my wife and I were looking to upgrade to a bigger car from our Prius since we are expecting our 2nd child we pretty much had our mind set on the Pilot (we didn't want to go the minivan route). We test drove the Pilot and liked it but we didn't like the new look as it made it look like a minivan. Then we drove past a VW dealership during our test drive and saw the Atlas and decided to go there and test it out also. Good thing we did cause the Atlas, to us at least, outshines the Pilot.

We were stuck on either getting the SE w/Tech or go to SEL trim. That panoramic sunroof is what sold us on the SEL. We ended up getting the SEL w/4Motion. We really wanted white but since we live in Hawaii available stock was very limited and any shipment of the Atlas was few to none and if they were going to get some it would have taken at least 4 months and they weren't even white or in the SEL trim.

Tip if you have access to Truecar pricing (mine was through my work through a discount program from ticketsatwork) you get a great deal. I got our Atlas SEL w/4Motion out the door for $42,103. Dealer was asking $48K but when I showed them my Truecar quote they went with that.

I am not looking forward on seeing what my average MPG will be, since I came from a Prius but that is what I got to live with now.

Next thing is to change the interior lights to LED.

Glad to have a new member on the forum.

Good choice on getting the Atlas (of course) seen a lot of people coming here from other brands especially with people that say how premium and upscale it looks all while being somewhat afforadable.
Grats on the new Atlas! It's fuel economy won't be as good as a Prius with how large the car is in comparison, but its real world numbers aren't bad for what you're getting.
The SEL with 4Motion has a highway EPA rating of 23 mpg, but people were able to get 24 mpg, so that's a bit more than expected. City mileage, as expected, is lower at around 17mpg.
Silver SEL 4Motion to a Black SEL 4Motion R-Line

Quick update on our Atlas. I felt I was taken advantage of by the dealership when we bought our Silver SEL 4Motion but then they made it up big time. Here is the story

As I stated in the original post my wife and I really wanted a white Atlas and the dealership we bought ours from told us they weren't going to get any in for a long time in the SE w/Tech or SEL trim and the ones they were going to get were going to be silver and gray. So we went with the reflex Silver SEL 4Motion. Silver was our least favorite color choice.

But low and behold 3 weeks later I am checking out their site and I see a new White SE w/Tech in the inventory. Made me furious and I was waiting for the VW sales survey to get to me so I can rip them a new one. Literally within 10 minutes of submitting the survey the owner of the dealership called me up to get a better understanding of the negative survey. He then offered to give us a good trade-in value for our SEL so we can get the white SE w/Tech. My Wife and I thought about it but then declined.

But then the next week I go back to the dealership to pick up our license plate and sitting in their show room was a Black SEL 4Motion R-Line. The sales person did not mention anything to us about this coming in and they knew our second color choice was black. This made me even more furious and I called the owner directly letting him know that I felt I was being hustled into buying the Silver SEL 4Motion. This time he gave us another deal for a good trade in value and a discount on the Black R-Line. This time we accepted. So now we have a new Black SEL 4Motion R-Line.

Original Atlas:
Reflex Silver SEL 4Motion
Original out the door price paid: $42,417
Trade in received: $42,500
Miles at trade-in: 1,502

New Atlas:
Black SEL 4Motion R-Line
Total Price paid: $41,917
Miles on purchase: 30
