Hello, just picked up my Atlas today. When I shut the vehicle off I hear a grindind noise like metal fan on metal. Almost as a small fan is slowing down it grinds once or twice. It looks like it’s near the top of the motor closest to the wind shield. Almost looks like it is connected to the air intake. Also I hear in that same area almost air being forced? I know this is unclear but I was wondering if this is cause for concern. I did see this mentioned on another forum but was curious. Will say we love the car! Thanks for any insights

Normal. They all do it. Related to start/stop system per a VW tech on one of the Atlas FB pages. 7K miles on mine, no drama. What is the "air being forced" noise? Is that after shutdown?

Curious....do all of you drive with the start stop off? I do. But, I have a theory after reading KarstGeo's post above and some more of the research I've been busy with today.

I don't mind the stop/start - I rarely turn it off. The noise is the springs in the torque converter actually:
