I also have a Comfortline and I asked my dealer.
The digital compass is only displayed within your navigation app while using the CarPlay / Android features.
So, yes, there is a digital compass in the Comfortline but it won't show in the main hud.
It feels cheapy from VW since it's only a software issue.

This seems like false advertising. This is a feature of Carplay (Apple) and not my car. I see this in Carplay when I use maps, but that is not part of the car. This is like saying the Atlas has an LTE radio, because my phone does.

Yes, a small, but noticeable omission. Our '16 GTI has the same dash panel, and in the notification panel between the tach and speedo it gives you a compass reading at the top center.

I inquired with VW Customer Relations, they called me back and indicated that Digital Compass is ONLY available on the Trendline, and is not included in the Comfortline. I indicated to them that this isn't clear in the brochure, as it says "Includes Threndline plus:". This doesn't make sense to me, why would the lower model have a feature the higher models do not?

In order to get the compass on your dash display on any model except the top SEL-Premium you have to enable it using either OBD Eleven or VAGCOM - it's an easy process and one of the first things I did on my SEL.
