2022 ATLAS SEL R Line.

Does anyone have a solution for why my CarPlay drops the wireless connection at the same spot on my commute to work? I don’t drive it every day. My 2014 Mazda doesn’t have this issue which is my daily commuter. It’s a problematic area for my VW Atlas for some reason. Same spot every time.

Are you actively listening to music or actively using any CarPlay map apps when it disconnects?
I get random “iPhone disconnected” messages but it always connects back up, however if I’m actively using any app it will not disconnect.

Yes. I’m playing music etc. Spotify. Pandora, Apple library. Tiktok. Anything streamed from my phone will disconnect on the same spot on the highway for the same 2 miles. Disconnection notification screen. Then screen goes black. Then eventually reconnects visually on the screen.

Try doing a hard reboot on both your radio and your phone. Not just a turn off/back on type of cycle but a full reboot that restarts all the apps. Our phones don’t actually turn off when they’re off, so apps don’t glitches tend to stick around until a full reboot is done.

to reset the car infotainment system, somebody correct me if I’m wrong here, you start your car, then hold the power button down for forever (maybe 10-15 seconds) until it powers down and back up, then release the button.

To reboot your phone, if you have an iPhone that’s at least a X or newer, it’s a little complicated but it’ll work.
the process is PRESS (not hold) volume UP, then volume DOWN, then HOLD the lock button. Hold the lock until your phone shuts down and turns back on. When you see the Apple logo, let go of the button. You do have to be quick between the buttons but it’s fairly easy to do.

try this. I know it sounds ridiculous but it sounds like a phone glitch for whatever reason that’s associated with your location in a certain app.

edit: this does not reset anything. You won’t lose any data Or saved settings.

Your phone likely sees a familiar SSID and tries to auto connect.

I did the hard reboot on both the phone and the unit. It didn’t work. My phone maintains a signal. And I can still use it without interruption. It’s just the infotainment unit that can’t maintain the connection. Maybe I’ll just have to use the plug for carplay. This is stupid. I’ll make sure I tell the maintenance tech when I take in in for service next time.

That’s pretty strange only because you mentioned it drops out the same 2ish miles every time, which points to something being associated with geolocation. If you said it drops out for 600 feet, I could understand some sort of interference, but for a couple miles? That’s pretty odd.

I would experiment with another Apple device, like someone else’s iPhone, or an iPad. Just something to link and use CarPlay to see if you can duplicate the issue.

I’m not trying to say you don’t have an issue with your Atlas’s infotainment system, but it just really smells like a phone issue to me. It may just be worth removing ALL of your registered connected BT devices and all WiFi networks from your phone and starting fresh. Like someone else mentioned already, it could be seeing something mimicking a similar network that it’s trying to connect to.

Our 21 is doing the same thing. Had it in to VW several times and they update the unit but it still disconnects in the same areas.
