Hey fellow Atlas Peeps,

I'm in need of your help… As we all know, the SEL has a stock tow capacity of 5000lbs. I am considering buying a Toy Hauler Camper Trailer which weighs 4500lbs (http://www.coachmenrv.com/product-details.aspx…). Then you add my Quad, Water, Beer Etc... I'd say that I'd be in the 5500lbs area (Maybe 6000lbs). It should be noted that of course I’ll be installing an electric breaks controller. I'd only be using it infrequently but for long trips.

Does anyone else have experience exceeding the 5000lbs tow limit and how does the Atlas respond?

All advise & opinions are welcome!

Personally, I wouldn't exceed the recommended weight, because driving characteristics and braking will be negatively impacted. I towed around 4,000lbs (4400 Max) in our Q5 last year and there were a couple sections through Tennessee and Kentucky where the oil temps were rising fast and I had to allow plenty of room for braking. Stayed under 60mph for pretty much the entirety of those two states. My fuel economy dropped to 9mpg too.
