Atlas Odometer Problems?

We've had our Atlas since May (8 months) and there have been small issues since we've had it. Clock, radio and the rattle in the undercarriage. A new issue came to our attention last week. The car reminded us of the 10k mile service. There is no way we've put 10k miles on the car. We live in a small town and really only drive it around town. Our local dealership didn't believe there was an issue with the odometer. So we noted the millage last week and in one week's time the odometer has moved over 500 miles. Without having to put gas in it! I wish.
Anyone else notice their odometer is off? This is potentially a big issue if miles are inflated.

Haven't seen this problem crop up on the forum yet and sounds concerning especially when it comes to the factory warranty too. Maybe there's another dealership who can give you a second opinion about the problem? Some service people take more time and effort than others.
That sounds more like a glitch in the software more so than something that is intentionally being inflated. There is no way that the car is registering mileage at an increased rate from normal, without something being wrong in the computer. Have you tried keeping track of the mileage with the trip meter and then comparing the two? And I would say that 10k miles in 8 months would involve some serious road trips, something you would likely remember. You might want to consider a different dealer if this one doesn't seem interested in addressing your concerns.

Hey Chelin11, can you elaborate on your rattle problem? Was it fixed by service? I have a similar issue and want to get it fixed. Thanks!
Re: Rattle in undercarriage

The rattle ended up being a piece rubbing against the gas tank. The sound came and went and we figured it was due to how full the gas tank was. Again, dealer didn't believe it was happening. Finally proved it to them and they fixed the issue.
I definitely believe the odometer issue is due to a software glitch. The sound system and clock were acting completely strange until we got that issue fixed a couple weeks ago. They told us it was common with the first run of Atlases. My concern is that the odometer (also being electric) was/is malfunctioning as well. My wife and I are in the process of monitoring the odometer. Would sure like to prove we didn't drive all those miles.
I am having all the same problems including odometer

I am having all the same problems including the odometer. It is definitely off and registering more miles than we have driven.
Odometer

efpunk, Have you addressed the odometer issue with anyone at VW? We were met with serious skepticism (as was suspected). If there are more people out there with the issue, VW will need to listen. I'm trying to figure out who at VW I bring this to next. The dealership has been no help.
There is an easy way to check this. 60 mph = 1 mile per minute. Set your cruise at 60 mph on a flat road and time how long it takes for your odometer to register 1 mile.

I checked mine and was within a couple of tenths of a second from a 60 second mile. This was probably my reaction time to start and/or stop the timer.

If yours is significantly off, it would be nice to know the factor of error. Maybe the software is reporting kilometers instead of miles which would be a factor of 1.6 as 1 mile = 1.6 km.
I'm not aware of an odometer issue on our Atlas, but I do feel like the fuel tank is too small. It's nice that its as cheap as our 09 Rogue was to fill up, and I know it's a bigger car with lower fuel efficiency, but it feels like it's always in need of a fill up! After reading this post though, I will pay more attention to distances travelled.
The tank is STUPID small !! I can’t stand having the 16.8 gallon tank, itvwas a massive mess up on VW .
Unit Settings

Make sure the unit settings for distance is set to miles. This should affect the odometer and trip odometer. It may be possible for the speed to be reported in mph while the distance is set to kilometers.

Also having odometer issues

Hi Chelin

Did you get your issue resolved? Because our Atlas is only 2 weeks old and we are having the exact same problem. Our dealership is also not believing us. Agree this is a HUGE issue.

Any updates would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Capacity for Fuel Tank?

Where did u see a 16.8 gal tank? All the specs I can find all say 18.6 gal. I'm I missing something here?
I agree. All the specs available show the Atlas with a 18.6 gallon fuel tank.

Did you have your cell phone with you? It sounds scary but your phone tracks everywhere you go. I even know someone who pulled his GPS records to prove he wasn’t speeding and get out of a ticket at court. It would be hard for the dealer to argue that you’re putting on all these miles while your phone sits idle at home.
Having same issue with my odometer, VW service just called and said they checked and it was accurate. It's definitely not accurate so they said all work being done is off warrantee, So I will have to pay for all repairs.
That said, I will be opening a file with my lawyer after I pick up my car and suing them. What an inconvenience.

Yes, I think the mileage is inflated. I don't drive more than 10-15 miles from my home. In one years time I usually drive around 10,000 miles at the very most. I now have 18,000 miles on my 2022 Atlas and I have not changed my driving habits.
