I have a 2020 Cross Sport SEL and I want to deactivate the auto start/stop and I understand you can do that with an OBD device. My question is will any OBD device do that. I have seen them priced from $25 to several hundred dollars. I do not plan to do anything else other than disabling the stop/start. Thanks

I have a 2019 w Tech and I installed a dongle that disables the start stop cycle if you choose or will allow it to function by pressing the A button. I love it and would never engage it again. Here is a link:

For the newer gen Atlas, I believe you can't kill it using OBDEleven/VCDS like you used to - will need to spend a little time searching as this topic has been covered a lot here and other forums (vwvortex) as well as the FB Atlas groups. The cheap OBDII scanners you see will not be usefull here.

I have a cheap Elm adapter that connects WiFi. On my 21 I was able to change a few things on the Carista App but not the Start/Stop. After emailing customer service he sent me a link for the Beta Version that he thought would be able to disable it through. Well my Elm adapter would get hung up and stall around 50% trying to send vehicle data. He said I need the Carista Adapter but I haven’t gotten around to ordering it.

If you just want to disable the stop/start feature, then I highly recommend the DIY Atlas / Cross Sport, Start/Stop Solution for 2018-2022 dongle. It basically reverses the stop/start switch output. The switch output is the input to the dongle, and the dongle output is the opposite of the switch output. For example, the default switch value is ON and the dongle reverses it to OFF. You can still turn the start/stop feature by pressing the switch. I've had our 2020 Cross Sport SEL R-Line in for service several times since I installed the dongle. The start/stop defaults to OFF when you start the engine, but nobody in Service has mentioned it or asked about it.

I swapped out the stock horns for Audi horns and I installed an aftermarket front license plate mount rather than bolting the plate directly to the bumper cover. The license plate mount is the only mod the service department asked about.

I have an OBD11 and tried it on my 2020. The option is there. It didn't take. There was a glitch the first time I flashed and had to flash all back to OEM. I didn't retry that one. I'm opting for the stage 1 ARP tune which will include reversing the switch so default is off but you can turn it on with the switch if you want.
